| A moisture content of 75-90
% is common in green or unseasoned timbers and when this timber frame begins
to dry and shrink, checking occurs. this is usually merely surface grain
separation, but gaps and shrinkage will occur in total depth and width,
at he joinery and also at the points where timbers meet walls and roof.
Checking is a natural aspect of wood, but it's not for everybody. That's
why we offer an alternative in the Sun-Dried timber frame.
Our process dries the wood
uniformly so that normal checking occurs initially and additional checking
to the wood is virtually eliminated. Plus, in a Sun-Dried frame, the joinery
remains as tight as when erected, eliminating the need for any special
design considerations. That is why we are so excited to announce the offering
of " kiln dried oak frames" with drastically reduced water content!
